Yi Rao leads the research at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, WIAS.

Institute of Basic Medical Sciences is committed to carrying out basic research on biology studies and human beings in order to improve human health. As the bridge discipline between biology and medical sciences, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences will integrate modern biology and medical sciences. At the same time, it will actively combine math, physics, chemistry, computing, psychology, cognition and engineering together to form modern medical research system. Hopefully some research findings can be world-leading in key areas, and the findings can not only become classical knowledge but also bring real-world application effects.  

Institute of Basic Medical Sciences plans to carry out basic medical research and application studies. It plans to cover Physiology, Neurobiology, Genetics, Immunology, and Pharmacology. Various disciplines complement each other, researchers fully exchange opinions, and therefore Institute for Basic Medical Sciences will become a base for scientist to mediate, to teach and to research.
